showreel

I have over 10 years experience working on commercial and artistic projects with roles in composition, recording, mixing and implementation, specialising in adaptive music. Below are excepts of original compositions for a variety of clients, as well as my own personal practice.

MUSIC & Audio design

Pixelynx

PIXELYNX is an interactive Music Ecosystem, co-founded by iconic musicians and technologists Joel Zimmerman aka deadmau5 and Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman.

My role consists of creative oversight of the Music Library and Generative Music Experience, which includes outlining musical direction, collaborating with external artists and composers, sound design, composition, and implementation.

METASOUNDS - Electric Counterpoint: III. Fast

Created in Unreal Engine 5 using Metasounds, the cannon spawns a projectile when a corresponding MIDI Note-On event occurs. A sample playback instrument made in Metasounds is triggered by the event collision between the projectile and illuminated box. Each instrument is spatialized, allowing the user to explore the layers of the composition and focus on the differing loops depending on where they are in 3D space.

Pixtunes

Pixtunes was a Berlin-based startup focused on creating adaptive music for real-world scenarios. In this driving experience, speed is mapped to control the intensity of the music using vertical and horizontal mixing techniques. Linear acceleration is utilised to trigger one-shot samples, while lateral acceleration modulates filter and delay parameters, resulting in a highly gamified experience.

I was responsible for the design and development of the audio engine, composition, and the implementation of the adaptive remix of 'Blinding Lights' by 'The Weeknd.'

The audio was recorded in real-time from the output of the Driving Experience mobile app.

Zoetrope

I created and implemented the surround soundscape for Zoetrope, A VR Film and installation by Circus Performer and Director Remy Archer. Zoetrope explores community lead circus projects in Cambodia, Palestine and Ethiopia and the positive effect these projects have on people’s lives

Zoetrope ran as an immersive installation at the Roundhouse throughout Circusfest 2018. The installation utilised a bespoke surround speaker set up and lighting effects to immersive the audience in the various locations of the film.

sound art

My work has been shown at the Tate Modern (London UK), IKLECTIK (London UK), ACUD MACHT NEU (Berlin DE) and Holzmarkt (Berlin DE).

Tree of Keys

Inspired by the form of a Mark Tree, ’Tree of Keys’ is a capacitive touch based instrument made from antique keys, conductive thread and a Raspberry Pi running an embedded Pure Data patch. Each time the player touches the instrument, randomised notes from a predetermined scale will play, creating unpredictable harmonies and chords. Physical modelling synthesis techniques are used alongside manipulated foley recordings to create a distinctive metallic sound.

Water Bowls

Aesthetically and sonically based on meditative singing bowls, this instrument responds to proximity and capacitive touch data to create sonorous resonating tones when played. The tonal characteristics of each bowl morph the longer they’re sustained for in order to mimic the physical attributes of a resonating singing bowl. Diffused LEDs light up underneath each bowl to create an immersive experience for the player.

KINETIC Tones

‘Kinetic Tones’, is an installation that combines open source software and hardware, microphones and re-purposed newtons cradles and marble runs to create music.

As a marble goes down the run it passes a series of trigger points, each trigger point can correspond to an individual note or generate a random note. In random mode the installation will create generated melodies and rhythms when multiple marbles go down the run at once.
